The Early Days

Mum and Pop



My father’s name was Karmachand Gandhi, and was the Governor of my home, Porbandar (region in western India.) My mother was fourth wife to my father. Her name was Putlibai and not only was she lovely but she taught me many of the values which in time influenced me on my decision making throughout my life.


Growing up I was quite an indifferent and uninterested student who even smoking and eating meat as a part of my rebellious stage!

Settling down and finding a Mrs.:

    
At thirteen, my parents arranged a marriage between me and a fourteen-year-old girl named Kasturba Makhanji. Although initially struggling with the loss of our first child at birth, we pulled through and had four sons.
